The Reason For Christmas!
One time I read this book about a missionary to an South American tribe, and this tribe had a little story they told each other. It went kind of like this. A man was watching these ants build their mounds, and the man wanted to help the ants, but every time he reached down to help the ants, they were scared and bit him. So, the man turned himself to an ant so that the ants would no longer be scared of him.
I don’t know how this tribe acquired this tale, but it resembles so much of the Christmas story. God could have come down in all His glory and majesty to save us, yet imagine that, all mankind would die from God’s glory, God’s greatness. So, in order to help us, God chose to be a man, like in the story where the man became an ant.
Jesus became a man for us. To save us from our sin. John 3:16 explains it all. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” All for us.
Instead of chariots of gold and glory, Jesus our King came “humble, and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden” into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:5). What kind of love is that? That the Lord of all Creation would come riding on an meek animal.
Christmas is a celebration of Christ coming to earth to save all mankind. So, this Christmas, let’s remember that and give God all the honor and praise and glory.
