Hobbiton

To be completely honest, I wasn’t very excited about the prospect of seeing Hobbiton. It was a three hour drive away (I don’t particularly love long drives), and, well, I just wasn’t up for it. Yet, I was surprised and pleased beyond what I ever imagined when I got to Hobbiton.

I’ve read the Hobbit and the first book of the Lord of the Rings. So, I know about Frodo, Bilbo, Sam and all the fun characters in those books. Even though we kids have never seen the movies, my parents thought that we couldn’t miss going to see the set. A couple of days before we left, we headed out to the land of the Hobbits.

So, after riding for a couple of hours, we turned onto a twisting road leading to the Shire. With the sheep all around and the grassy hills preying the landscape, I couldn’t help but get a little excited for what we were about to see.

We hopped on our tour bus and began the fascinating tour through Hobbiton. Our tour guide Mr. Brandon, a truly fantastic tour guide, showed us around and told us interesting stories about the production of the movie.

We wandered around, enjoying all the hobbit holes.

The holes are so small that the children are taller than the doors. 🙂

We passed by Bilbo’s home.

We even got to tour a hobbit house.

But the best part, which is my favorite part, was the Green Dragon Inn.

The cozy atmosphere just delighted me. The fire roared, giving a generous amount of heat, and lit the inn. It was wonderful.

They gave each of us a free drink. I drank Ginger Beer (no alcohol present), which was so delicious.

We had so much fun at Hobbiton. I never ever expected it to be so cool. It’s a must visit when in New Zealand.

Thank You, God, for letting us enjoy this amazing place.
