The Humble Knight
Dawn Wild wrote this fable. I hope you guys like it.
There once was a king who lived in a castle with his beautiful only daughter. And it came to a time that the daughter was old enough to marry. So the king said that the best knight could have her hand in marriage. But the princess herself was in love with the lowliest knight of the kingdom. So when her father declared that the best knight may win her hand, the princess rushed to the lowly knight and told him what her father had decided.
“Oh my love! You must work up to be the highest and best knight in my father’s eyes, for you are already the best in my eyes.” She said.
“I will do anything for you, my love! If it means I die, I will! I shall work the hardest, I will. Your hand in marriage is all I wish for.” The humble knight said.
The princess leaned forward and kissed the knight’s cheek, then hurried away. The knight knew that winning her hand was all he wanted. So, he hasten away to his training. On his way he came to his only friend. He was a wise knight and he too had heard about the king’s request.
“My friend, what shall I do!” The worried lover asked in desperation.
“You shall practice and practice in till you’re the best knight.” The wise man said.
The knight did this until he was perfect. When the testing day came, He was to duel the very best knight. He looked up at the place were the king and his daughter sat. The pretty princess’s eyes held hope. And the knight remembered the kiss she had given him. The duel began. The humble knight fought with all his might. And won! He defeated the best knight. The princess ran down the stairs, and kissed the knight she loved. As the knight held the princess in his arms he said.
“I love you.”
Practice makes perfect.
