Fever
Speaking of fever, I am suffering from one. (I guess it comes with traveling) Yep, I am still sick, so Dawn Wild volunteered to help me with this post.
She wrote a story for us and also drew the picture above. I hope you enjoy.
Bang!
Calla sat up in her bed, awoken by the noise. She sat listening, her heart pounding in her ears. The loudly chirping crickets seemed to say it was okay. But, right as Calla was about to lay back down the sound rang again, but this time it sounded more like a knock on the door.
“Come on, Calla, are you there?” A male’s muffled voice asked. Calla slipped out of bed. Her long white dress trailed the ground as she walked out of her bedroom and into the kitchen, lastly reaching the back door. With much hesitancy, she turned the knob, and slightly opened the door so that she could see the man’s whole body. He stood there, holding something in his arms.
“Who are you and what do you want?” Calla demanded. A cloud moved out of the moon’s way and Calla began to see the man’s face. His hair was wind blown and black, and he had sharp jaw, and his eyes were dark also. Calla’s own pretty jaw dropped as she realized who this tall man was. Reign the Dragon Hunter. “Reign…”
“Yes, it’s me, Calla.” His white teeth flashed momentarily. Then he slowly pushed the door open so that he could step in. “I need your help. Can you help me?”
“Uh, depends on what you need.” Calla glanced once again at the bundle in his arms. What was it?
“I found this boy and he’s sick with fever. He needs assistance. Your assistance. “
“Oh, no. Here lay him on the couch.” Calla said as she hurried into the living room and quickly fixed it so that Reign could put the boy down. The light through the window showed a pale but flushed young face of about nine. Calla place her hand on his forehead and let out a gasp.
“He’s burning!” She cried. “Reign, remove some covers.” Reign heeded her word and removed the thick bear skin that was wrapped around him. Calla herself grabbed a cloth and a bowl of water. She then crouched beside couch and began to wet the child face.
“How long has he been this hot?” She asked and looked up at the handsome hunter.
“Since, I found him yesterday.” Reign said.
“Oh, no.” Calla watched as the boy moved his head while groaning.
“Calla, he’s on the edge. But, I know of a plant that might save his life. Just, keep him alive and I’ll be back.” Reign turned to leave, but Calla stood up and caught his hand.
“Reign, please don’t take too long. You won’t, will you?” She stared up in his eyes, one of which was slightly covered by some of his dark hair, as she released his worn hand.
“I’ll be back as soon as I can.” He glanced at the door then returned his eyes to Calla. His eyes wandered her face, merely glancing at her undone hair and quickly returning to her eyes. He smiled and nodded his head. “See you soon, Calla.” He whispered then stepped into the chilled night. Calla silently watched as he jump on his dragon, and dove into the night.
